The Masterpiece 2020

The 2020 gala with the theme ‘Tribute to 2020,’ was an exceptional one as we get to see a few of Indonesia’s best fashion designers come together to show their resolve and heart through their designs in the first ever live streamed annual Masterpiece, creating hope amidst one of the hardest years for mankind and inspiring others to keep creating through tough time. Reminding people that the arts help people to cope in dark times – even during a pandemic that prevents us experiencing art and culture alongside others in the same physical spaces.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a colossal effect on almost every industry. And so it follows that the fashion industry has also been experiencing the effects of a global health crisis. The fashion industry is both a creative mecca and one of the world’s most significant fiscal heavyweights. With that being said, in the year 2020 we get to see just how prevalent the fashion industry is as it became a key service amidst the global pandemic, to support in creation and distribution of essential equipment, in a joint effort to fight the virus.

“The pandemic has shaken the lives of many and in this unprecedented moment in history, we hope our annual fashion gala The Masterpiece may provide entertainment, enthusiasm and inspiration for fashion lovers – especially to designers and craftsmen – so that they can continue creating and contribute to the ecosystem for human survival,” shared Mrs. Liliana Tanoesoedibjo, the Chairwoman of HighEnd Magazine and designer of her fashion house, Livette Tenun.

Hosted by Natasha Mannuela, the annual Masterpiece brings together a stellar ensemble of 7 Indonesian fashion designers showcasing their best works while paying tribute to 2020 where masks – an important part of our wardrobes that we never leave the house without – became a fashion statement seen on so many designer collections, worn by celebrities and eventually the masses. Amongst the star-studded ensembles are Vivi Valencia and her opulent sparkling green gown accompanied by a matching face mask. Barli Asmara and his ethereal nude gown accompanied by a delicate beaded mask. Viena Mutia and her glamorous royal deep navy number with stunning gold embroidery accompanied by a matching embroidered face mask. Nila Baharuddin serves well with her choice of elegant black and white mixture of jumpsuit and corset. Nina Nugroho with her classy bronze and dark silver co-ord where modernity meets classic Muslim fashion and accompanied by a matching bronze bejeweled mask. Byo with his fun pink co-ord with a unique geometric modular design completed with a matching pink weaved mask as well as his signature anatomy bag. Last but definitely not the least is the show -stopping piece by Livette Tenun with its iridescent blue tenun dress inspired by the East Kingdom accompanied by a matching jeweled accessories and face mask.

“Masterpiece is a prestigious event as well as a platform for fashion designers to not only express their creativity, but showcase their best creations to fashion enthusiasts. Livette Tenun designs are all highly unique and this year we have returned with yet another design inspired by Indonesia’s cultural heritage where we introduced gold sequins and Swarovski crystals on Lombok woven fabric. The dress is completed with layers of turquoise and royal blue bead necklaces that sits beautifully on the back of the low-cut dress; adding a classy touch of allure to the dress. There is also a colorful beaded bracelet designed by a craftsman in Lombok to accompany the beaded necklaces. The whole look is topped off with an intricate headpiece and earrings by Leciel Design,” explained Mrs. Liliana Tanoesoedibjo. With sincerity in each of her work, Livette Tenun presents yet another stunning and original gown that successfully highlights the beauty and fluidity of Indonesia’s woven fabric.
